It is almost time for The Largest 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament on Earth - Spokane Hoopfest! It is hard to believe that a fairly small town tucked away on the upper left-hand side of the map, not really near anywhere or anything, with a population of under 300,000 people is home to such a huge event as Hoopfest.
Every summer, the last weekend in June, Spokane shuts down 42 city blocks to make way for 450 basketball courts that will host over 7,000 teams from around the country... and probably the world. This year it is being held June 29th and 30th and we are expecting a record turn out for the event. Spokane Hoopfest is an event for everybody, all are welcome and there are brackets for anybody who wants to play starting from youth entering the 3rd grade. Even Special Olympics and wheelchair athletes are welcomed with open arms into this event.
There are lots of things going on besides 3 on 3 basketball though. This year Spokane Hoopfest will be one of the stops on the 2013 Slackline World Cup, with 32 of the top slackline athletes from around the world competing. Want more basketball action though? There is also a chance to win a new Toyota Rav4 in the Toyota Shootoff. How does that grab you? Toyota will be giving away a new 2013 Rav4 to the winner of the long-range shootoff. Honestly though, the competition for the tee shirt that the Hoopfest champions get is more fierce... go figure.
So if you are going to be in the Spokane Washington area on the weekend of June 29th and 30th, I urge you to head downtown and be a part of the excitement.
