If the Phoenix summer heat during the day is getting you down, there are many places to go in Northern Arizona to get away from the heat. One of the most beautiful activities that I have found is the Verde Canyon Railway ride. This train ride through the Verde Canyon is full of beauty, wildlife and relaxation. The train leaves from Clarkdale and arrives in Perkinsville then makes its way back down to Clarkdale for a full round trip. You can sit in an enclosed train car or feel the fresh air on one of the open cars. This sets the scene for a photographer’s paradise with the beauty of the winding canyon.
To add to the appeal of escaping the heat of Phoenix, the Verde Canyon Railway has introduced Saturday Starlight Tours for the summer. On select Saturday evenings (6-22-13, 7-20-13, 8-17-13, 9-7-13 and 9-21-13) the train will be departing the depot at 5:30 pm for the tour. Enjoy the beauty of the canyon with the sunset in the background shadowing the canyon walls with splashes of sunlight. Set your eyes on nighttime wildlife as the train returns after stopping in Perkinsville. If one picture is worth a thousand words, a photographer could have an entire diary by the end of the evening!
If you are interested in taking part of a daytime or nighttime ride on the Verde Canyon Railroad, call 800.320.0718 for more information. Escape the Phoenix summer heat and enjoy some scenery and relaxation – go ahead you deserve it.
