First Day of Summer 2013.....Enjoy the Beauty that Surrounds You

First Day of Summer 2013 ..... Enjoy the Beauty that Surrounds You

What does the 'First Day of Summer' mean? To most of us, it is just a reminder that school is out, time for vacations and that we can hope to enjoy warmer weather and flowering plants and trees.

The summer solstice (sun in latin) is the day with the most hours of sunlight during the entire year.

But factually, the first day of summer has been celebrated for hundreds of years in most cultures of the world. And currently whether you are standing at  historical Stonehenge in Whiltshire, England or Spain, Egypt, Peru, New York City, Poland, New Zealand, the Chaco Cultural National Historical Center in New Mexico or right in your own community, you can enjoy the first day of summer and the days that follow.

I personally took pictures this morning as I love the beauty around me and this time of the year brings out the best of Mother Nature.

Enjoy Summer and here are a few suggestions:

  • Read a book,

  • Take a hike,

  • Visit the mountains, desert or beach

  • Go Sailing or Golfing
  • Take a Vacation
  • Go Camping
  • Plant a Tree or some pretty Flowers
  • Sit in front of a Bon Fire
  • Feed the Birds
  • Hang a Sun-Catcher to grab the Rays of Sun

Hi Kristin, Summer is always a fun time as the weather is warm and the water is always inviting. We have less flowers that can survive the inland heat in the summer but each year we have more varieties that seem to appear that are heat tolerant.

Hi William,

I think your flowers in San Diego are large and very colorful. The weather there seems to have more humidity and the temps are lower than in the Inland Empire, the Valleys and of course in the desert. San Diego is a great place to live. Enjoy!

There is something about those China Poppies, that scream summer, Kristen.  I'm still having difficulty wrapping my arms around the fact that we are so deeply seated into 2013.  Where have these past several months gone?

Hi Myrl,

It is amazing that we are almost halfway through the 2013 year. Hope your summer is going well and you are finding time to ride your bike. Happy Saturday.
