A few steps for going green

When either at home, work, the grocery store or everywhere in between, there are many ways you can live a greener life. What’s more, it's really not hard at all. The key is to begin by asking yourself some simple and basic questions:1) Am I really using more resources than I need? Am I really using more energy than I need? And are my actions making my community a healthier place? All of these questions can lead to subtle & dramatic changes in your daily behavior.

The things you can do to use things over and over again can either be for the same purpose or for something totally new. It just takes a little creativity. Not only will you be cutting back on the resources you use but you'll also end up with some cool, eye-catching conversation starters too.

You can start by setting aside bins in your home to separate and collect recyclable materials such as newspapers, clear & colored glass, plastics, aluminum cans, cardboards and fluorescent light bulbs just to name a few. Be sure to check with your local trash-collection company, municipal government, or business directory to find out what recycling services are available.

Kenrick,  In Dallas we are fortunate to have a weekly recycling pick up.  Most of our grocery stores encourage reusable bags by giving a small discount for each green bag used. Dallas is discussing the ban of plastic bags, as well.

Hi Sharon, We have recycling pick up here also, but's we have to seperate them into several small bins at the moment. They will be changing that in the fall to 1 large trash bin which will be nice! I wish they give a discount for using green bags. I use them when I only go in for a few items because the local walmart never has any hand baskets. That would be great if they do ban plastic bags in Dallas! And here too hopefully
