C & H Restoration in Baltimore's Station North Arts District is a company that draws their workforce from the artist community in Baltimore, a community "with which they are deeply involved".  Owned and operated by artists Nicholas Cairns and Timothy Horjus, C & H Restoration & Renovation LLC is a go-to firm in Baltimore for restoration and updating historic homes and commercial properties.

This week they hosted an outside-the-box (pun intended) pop-up gallery exhibit at a new space affectionately called "The Chicken Box" on the corner of Charles St and North Ave in Baltimore. The show was an opportunity for many of the artists on the C & H roster to exhibit their own work in a space the team has recently renovated. As you'll be able to see from the photos, not long ago this place was a fried chicken joint.

Baltimore's Station North Arts District utlized C & H to transform the space into an office, theatre, and gallery space for Station North artists. It will also serve as an information headquarters for Station North.

The front of the building has an incredible mural by Baltimore's best known street artist Gaia. The mural is part of the Open Walls Baltimore project that succeeded in adding numerous murals to Station North properties as a not-to-be-missed way to let citizens know you are in an arts district.

The Natty Boh was flowing and the C & H art stars were out in full force to inaugurate the newly renovated Chicken Box space. I love how the old tin ceiling was illuminated over pristine walls. The floors have a fine patina of grease and foot traffic. Folks, this is not an ironic quasi hipster aesthetic, this is the real deal.

Standing on the corner of Charles St and North Ave in Baltimore, Maryland you can see the buildings awaiting renovation. Let's hope the work is done by C & H. According to their own literature "The artists that work with C & H share a strong attachment to craft and understand the need to meet exacting standards. Their diverse backgrounds and skill-sets and appreciation for aesthetic vision make for a rare collection of artisans who are capable of handling all the challenges that come with restoring and updating historic homes."

I myself am a Station North Arts District veteran, as my husband and I lived in the notorious Copy Cat building from 2003 - 2008. At least 30% of my real estate clients have ties to the art community including; curators, artists, film makers, and professors. I've known Tim Horjus and Nick Cairns for a number of years. I whole heartedly reccomend them to my clients for their restoration needs - especially hardwood floors. You'll not only be pleased with the quality of their work, you'll value the fact that you've engaged trustworthy individuals. An in-demand neighborhood in Baltimore City where you'll often find them at work is Bolton Hill. Click here to read about Baltimore's most elegant neighborhood.
