When builders build homes in a planned community, they usually have a landscaping package that is supposed to dress up the front elevation and make it pretty. Sometimes they do.... but usually they don't give any thought to how close they plant trees to the structure. These things grow up! Here is a good example of why it is important to keep tree limbs from touching your roof surface.
The palm trees were planted too close to the house. It was fine when they were planted, but now they are above the height of the roof and the limbs are touching the shingles. When the wind blows, the limbs rub scrape over the shingles and loosen up the protective granules on the shingle tabs. This will reduce the life of your roof significantly, and the sun will do its thing and bake your shingles to a crisp!
This one is even worse than that. The limbs have been doing this for quite a long time and have even worn through some of the tabs!
This roof will have to be replaced, or at least this section of itwill. The rest of it is in pretty decent shape. It is only 10 years old. What a shame, a little tree
trimming would have prevented this.
Of course I recommended that they remove the one tree that is closest to the house and trim the rest up.
Certainly all these trees are planted too close to the house.
So keep those limbs from rubbing the surface of your roof! You can't see what damage they are doing from ground level.
