It's Like Floating Through a Zoo

Rafting the Wild and Scenic Rogue River - Melinda PetersonIt's been said that rafting the Wild and Scenic Rogue River is like floating through a zoo.  Why?  Because in these parts, there are plenty of bald eagles, osprey, deer, bear, fox, Chinook salmon, steelhead, and raccoons hiding around every corner of tall pine trees and beautiful rock formations.

If it's adventure you seek, the Rogue River offers many Class II and III rapids, making it one of the best rivers to float in a raft or inflatable kayak.  If the scenic route is more your style, I recommend a Hellgate Jet-Boat Excursion.  It's a 4-hour tour of the Rogue River with a stop at the OK Corral, where a wagon takes you up to a secluded lodge for all-you-can-eat ribs and chicken.  All you-can-drink spirits are included too!

If the Rogue River doesn't float your boat, perhaps a trolley ride downtown might bringWildlife Images - Merlin, Oregon - Melinda Peterson out the critter in you.  The Bears are back in town and they're a delight to see along 6th and 7th Streets or at the Bear Hotel.  Don't forget to swing over to Wildlife Images, a sanctuary for orphaned wildlife indigenous to the Pacific Northwest, where you'll have a lovely opportunity to take some pics with some real Yogi's.

Grants Pass is hopping with tourists seeking cooler temps and fun things to do this 4th of July week!  Festivities begin this evening with a free Concert at Riverside Park (6:30pm) with the sights and sounds of Nephilim... they're sure to put a little Rock in your Roll and Funk in your Soul.  Have a safe and happy 4th of July!

I'd love to go hopping there too, but on a holiday, not so much.  I try to stay I inside my house on holidays.

Mel,

I love river rafting.  We did a raft trip in Oregon where they filmed the "River Runs Through it".  I really like the zoo analogy.  A

It's a wonderful place to romp around any time of year Tammy!  Enjoy the holiday ;-)

I love rafting too... Alexandra.  The Rogue can be a little scary in some places... but great for thrill-seekers ;-)

Thank you kindly Steven!  Stop by for a cup of Joe next time you're in our neck of the woods ;-)

Mel, such a beautiful area.  When I traveled the State many years ago in sales I always enjoyed the Grants Pass, Southern Oregon areas.  You do live in beautiful country!

Mel, I kind of like the Hellgate Jet Boat excursion but I'm worried I might spill my Champagne.

Floating in the river sounds like the thing to do this time of year.

Good luck and success.
