Next steps after an online home search?

What do buyers do after they search for homes online?

As a real estate agent you hope that right after a potential home buyer visits your website, they will call you and ask to buy a house with you as their real estate agent. Most likely this is not going to happen. So what are the common steps a potential home buyer takes after they search for and find a home they like on the internet? If you know the process the home buyer will go through before they are ready to buy, you can prepare and position yourself as the knowledgeable real estate agent in their mind.

Watch this IMSD clip to hear the next steps after an online home search from IMSD Community Manager, Chad Hyams!

How can you make sure the buyer finds what they are looking for on your website? You need to know what they are looking for.

  • 84% rated photos as the number one thing they were looking for
  • 79% want detailed information (square footage, etc.)
  • Only 40% are looking for agent contact information

They are looking for properties, not you. Give them what they want so you can establish yourself and a trusted source. Once they take the next steps after an online home search,  they will be ready to speak with a real estate agent and you will be the one that comes to mind.

I've done professional photography, floor plans, detailed home and neighborhood information for over a decade. This is why people go on-line. If they find the information they are looking for they will get in touch with you.

Great point -- More and more buyers are utilizing Internet search engines to househunt. The Wall Street Journal recently had an article that discusses what time of day potential buyers are most likely to search online for homes, dependent upon location. It is a great read and you can check it out here

Great video in your post!  I totally agree with you -- I have recently read several articles that point out that the buyer uses the internet for almost everything.  As agents, we really need to have a strong online presence to get found.  Thanks for sharing!
