One of the most competitive jobs in New York City is real estate. Mostly due to the fact that the real estate market in New York is so competitive because of the amount of people looking for apartments. Agents are constantly competing to show apartments and close deals as quickly as possible.
But real estate is also one of the most rewarding jobs in New York because of the amount of money an agent or broker can make within a short amount of time. One key attribute Rapid Realty agents have had to learn to become successful in the business, is how to beat the stress that comes with the job.
The following are tips our franchisees pass along to Rapid agents.
Remember The Odds
Deals usually work out in some fashion. If you think about how many transactions you've had that looked like they might have gone wrong, how many of them have actually worked out? Keep in mind that even if the transactions didn't go as perfectly as you had hoped, they still worked out. Stressing about deals will only add more pressure and anxiety to the job.
Eat The Big Fish First
If you're faced with a mounting obstacle, tackle it before anything else. You'll be tempted to blow it off, but if you want to reduce your future stress levels, take care of larger tasks and obstacles first.
Be Honest And Claim Responsibility
One of the most stressful things in real estate is when agents drop the ball. If you didn't get an applicant's papers in on time, or you misplaced a key, own up, take responsibility and be honest. Clients, other agents, and your real estate company will respect you more for being a person of integrity and you'll feel much better being honest than masking a problem.
Exercise
Running around the city can seem like a workout in itself, but make sure you dedicate some time each day or at least 3x a week to fit in a workout, go for a walk or get outdoors. The endorphins your brain releases during a workout can help improve your mood and relieve stress. You'll come back to your work tasks with a clearer and happier perspective on things.
Remind Yourself That This Too, Shall Pass
Agents often find themselves in situations that feel as though they'll never end. Right now, the major issue agents are facing is the impact of the recession. Our country has always been able to rebound and, in a metropolitan area like New York City, the impact of the recession is slowly lifting and Rapid Realty, along with its agents have been able to ride out the wave of the recession.
Remember To Have Fun
Stress is something that comes with any job, but handling it diligently is the key to keep yourself moving forward. Remember to always have fun. Whether agents are out with clients or in the office posting listings with other agents, the most important thing is to have fun, while still maintaining a professional attitude.
