Bedrock Colorado...Home of Fred Flintstone and Not Much Else Foto Friday. They Do Exist...I Found Fred Flintstone's Hometown.
Bedrock is an official little town. It even has a post office. This little town was established in 1883. The post office opened in November of 1883. The town sits in Paradox Valley. An area known for it's uranium mines. It's closer to Utah than anything else in Colorado.
The Bedrock Store is for sale if anyone is interested. A lot of the buildings were built on stone and that's how the town got it's name. Bedrock is the only town that sits on Highway 90. Paradox is down the road a few miles, but it sits about a mile off the Highway. Don't expect any services of any kind in this remote area.
Work took me through this little town on the Fourth of July. Even with the holiday there wasn't any traffic and or anything going on in the area. This area is so lonely, you can stop on the Highway to take pictures. I took a series of Forest Service Roads...the scenic off the beaten path back way...to get to Paradox Valley. These are the road that don't appear on your state road map. I did the route from memory, and didn't get lost. It was a neat trip.
One of today's projects is to wash the car after yesterday's little adventure.
Even though Paradox Valley is very remote...it's a really beautiful place. For me the remoteness adds to the beauty. The red rock cliffs really stand out. In my younger days, I use to travel here to do some climbing on the red rocks.
I've lived on Colorado's Western Slope for over 22 years. I love this area and all it has to offer, and I enjoy sharing what I know about my home. As a real estate broker, I also love to share my expertise in this area as well. If you need any real estate information for Montrose County, or Delta County, Colorado...please give me a call.
