I Hope everyone had a safe and "Top-Notch" Independence Day and enjoying the holiday weekend! We're at the end of the week, but today's a little different. We're back to work after a day off and depending on the size of the gathering you had yesterday, I'm sure that cleaning up came with it. The grill is no different, but the maintenance can be easy as long as you stay on top of it. People should think of their grills like their stove tops, this way there would be a lot less problems with our grills wearing out as often as they do.
Now, I could just be a messy cook, but I can't seem to cook without having to at least wipe down the surface. I used to be a chef and I'm picky about that. Every now and again, I'll do a more thorough cleaning. Including moving everything out of the way and being sure to wipe around and under the burners. A grill should be treated similarly. Every time it is used, it should at least be cleaned lightly.
Grates are the exception to this general rule. They NEED to be totally cleaned after EVERY SINGLE use. This is important, it will prevent your foods from sticking to your grill making it way easier to cook your food on. It's true that there are plenty of products on the shelf at the store for cleaning your grate, but truthfully any good stiff wire brush will do the job just fine.
With everything out of the grill, clean it completely with soapy water. If the paint is coming off, or if your grill is showing signs of rust then you need to do some painting. Other than that, put everything back in, check to make sure that all connections are good, and then turn it on. Let the grill heat completely before you cook again to make sure that any left over soap residue gets burned off.
