Why I hate fireworks

Yes I said it. I hate fireworks. I haven't always hated them. Loved them when my kids were little and they enjoyed them. Now all of them are teenagers and not interested. That's not the main reason i hate fireworks. Not even an important one. The main reason I hate them is cause of my dog. I have a shi-tzu that is terrified of them. I mean he doesn't run under the bed to try to run away. He's the big bad wolf! He thinks if he puffs his chest and barks deep and loud , he can scare them away. It's annoying. He doesn't stop.

So this year we tried an anxiety medicine for him. Whoops! The doc gave us the wrong dose. So a day and a half later, he's walking around drunk. (Actually sort of funny). On the other hand it's kind of sad. I live in an area where people don't watch their teens like they should. Some people themselves just don't care ie.. fireworks at 1 am. Having to calm him down and see him struggle for over a day to even go to the bathroom is probably the main reason I am really starting to dislike fireworks. There I said it. The kid in me is finally getting older and it's scary.

Your dog and I have my sympathy.  I have not gone to watch them for many years.  I always saw it as a waste of money.  But last night, I enjoyed them for a small enclave on the water.  a few neighbors paid for it and it draws lots of people by cars and boats.

I agree with you Chris, our two huge dogs (totaling over 300 pounds), tore us apart last evening.  I'm so bruised up, it looks like I was in a car accident.  As a young girl at the age of 10, I witnessed a young boy at the beach lose two fingers from some type of firework.

Chris, sorry that you're getting old but we all are so take some comfort in that.  Pets & people along with all animals of all ages have to deal with this American tradition some tolerate it okay while others can't.  I lean more towards can't as I age, not so much from the sights and sounds but from the circumstance we put "them" through unnecessarily.

We have a small dog as well, for the last three days, it seems the dog has been terrorized. We've done the remedies that came from the vet as well, but it doesn't seem to help.
