Don't forget that "under all is the land!"

America the Beautiful, Land of the Free!  Free to choose where we live.  Free to choose how close to the "Beautiful America" we can be.

May we protect the rolling plain and the billowed carpet to the horizon.  In this next century I hope that the leaders of this great nation remember where we came from and protect the beauty that our fore bearers enjoyed and cherished.

The land by Richard WeisserAs billowed carpet to the horizon lain,
The grassy verdant rolling plain,
Will soon be turned by dieseled plow
And sown with concrete, wood, and tile,
When progress strikes with hydraulic hands,
Forget not that “under all is the land!”

As a real estate broker I have mixed feeling about progress. I completely understand that as demand for housing increases, more and more open land will be developed.

If there was one silver lining to the recent downturn in the real estate market, it was that furious and nearly uncontrolled development had been held in check for as few years.

Now that the bulldozers and earth movers have been restarted, I always feel a little sad to see tracts like the one in the photo fall to progress.

Of course, landowners have a right to do what they want with their property.

But that doesn’t mean that I have to like it!

Note: "Under all is the land" is the opening line of the Realtor Code of Ethics.
