Keep posting! A lack of replies does not mean a lack of views!

Quick blogging tip here Active Rain bloggers - don't get discouraged if your blog posts aren't getting many (or any) comments.  Just because people aren't replying to your blog post it doesn't mean that they aren't reading it!

To give you some insight I'll let you in on a quick story.  A few months back I had listed a property for a former client and we were at a critical junction with an offer on her house.  We were split by about $1500 on the buyer's highest and best and my seller's ideal bottom line.  As we were discussing what to do I brought up an instance I had dealt with years prior, one I blogged about as well.  In that specific case I had a seller turn down an offer over $2000, despite my advice not to do so.   Months (and a new listing agent) later that same seller sold for $27,000 less than the offer they rejected when they were listed with me.  I use that example when I've got sellers real close to getting a price agreement but are stuck on a few thousand dollars.

So as I start into the story my seller cuts me off.  "Yeah Brint, I know, I read your blog."

That caught my by surprise.  I market my AR blog regularly and make sure it's out there but I don't usually get a lot of comments or feedback.  Furthermore this client of mine didn't really strike me as someone who spends much time reading blogs, she's much more of an outdoors kind of person.  (Or maybe she just had me fooled).

In the end she met the buyer's highest and best price and we got the house sold.  And my blog post helped get it done.  If you want more info on that story and how those sellers wound up costing themselves $27,000 You can find that here: http://activerain.com/blogsview/2577219/how-to-throw-away-27-000

So consider this if you're banging your head against the wall because your blog isn't getting a lot of replies:

1. A now almost 5-year old study in the book Groundswell shows that a large majority of web users never interact with the blogs and sites they use.  They're "lurkers" and just like to read what's there.

2. Don't track your blog by replies, but by how many people are viewing it.  You can do this in Active Rain!  On your AR home page look on the left hand side and click "Traffic".

3. Consider your blog post as part of your total communication mix.  Look to my example!  Sometimes what you're posting doesn't get instant reply but has a future affect on those you work with.

So go forth and keep blogging!

This was great, Brint! It makes perfect sense. Our primary goal is about disseminating information, so we should be much more concerned about how many people see our information as opposed to how many people stop and leave a comment. Great job!
