Should You Take a Summer Vacation from Real Estate?

One of the BIGGEST MISTAKES agents make as the weather gets a little warmer, and summer sets in, is to take a vacation from their real estate business.

Should Your Real Estate Business Take a Summer Vacation?I DON'T mean a hard-earned and planned summer vacation -- all of you should DEFINITELY take one or two of those. What I DO mean is the false perception that many agents have that when the sun comes out, real estate prospects die. This is absolutely UNTRUE!!!

I saw it in my own marketplace every summer. Agents slowly, and often completely, stop any active pursuit of business. Why would they do this? Well, I know what they are rationalizing to themselves. They're saying: "Why work? It's a dead time of year. Everyone's on vacation. Why kill myself beating the business and shaking the trees for nothing? Why not just relax and enjoy the summer and get serious again in the fall . . ."

What an opportunity that was . . . for ME -- because it left all the more business for me and my Team to easily pick up. You see, I learned early to stay focused and, as a result, I always had great summers from both a business and family standpoint. Even though the total volume of business in my marketplace went down by a bit, I always had boom summers because my competitors consciously decided to slack off. Like I said -- all the more for me!!

What I call my ARPS (Automatic Reverse Prospecting System) continued working automatically all year long -- no change just because the weather turns warmer. So it was really just business as usual. Real estate agents who use my systems properly know that their business won't die if they decide to take a vacation -- it will continue to run by itself. This is the difference between the kind of real estate "business" I help agents build, and the kind of "job" most real estate agents have.

But it's really more than lack of other agents' systems that paves a gold mine opportunity for you at this time of year. You know how it is. People hear what they want to hear. Everyone would love to take the whole summer off, but what a MAJOR opportunity you're WASTING if you do this. Don't be distracted by the good weather. Don't listen to negativity from other agents in your office. Instead, keep your system (whetever that system is) running so that it makes money for you.

Think about it. If you stop running your ads in the summer, the number of leads pouring into your business will dry up. If you stop following up on your leads in the summer, your pipeline will dry up. If you don't arrange to meet with prospects to present to them in the summer, your listing pool will dry up. Where will that leave you in the fall? It will leave you scrambling, that's where. The real estate system I teach agents is largely automatic, but you still have to give it some gas if you want it to run. The issue is focus. Stay focused on your outcome. And that goes for your personal life as well. When you really do take some planned time off, focus on that -- NOT on your business. You should have enough systems in place to be able to leave the office behind when you walk out the door.

Do You Have the Right Focus?A way to really FOCUS on the important things in your business that has proven to be life changing for many of my students is my Coaching Program and I urge you to evaluate my real estate coaching program as the stepping stone (or elevator) to the next stage of your real estate career. You can run around and be busy every day of your life and never take a significant step forward. It's only when you make a conscious decision to FOCUS on the important things that will make a SIGNIFICANT difference in your business that you will truly see your full growth potential. Every single one of you has the ability to make the leaps necessary to make much more money AND doing so in much LESS time. The ONLY difference between you and the agents who have this kind of business is that they decided to make it happen. You have to ask yourself if you’ve committed to that reality yet. This program truly won't cost you a penny if you take full advantage of it and you can find more information here.
