How do you get a real estate license in Missouri?
There are four steps to getting a real estate license in Missouri:
- Take a 48-hour pre-Exam course.
- This pre-Exam course can be taken in a classroom setting.
- 1st Choice Real Estate School (http://www.1stChoiceRealEstateSchool.com)
- Career Education Systems (http://www.CESStL.com)
- Coldwell Banker School of Real Estate (https://www.cbresourcecenter.com/cbgschool/)
- You can also take the pre-Exam course online.
- 1st Choice Real Estate School (http://www.1stChoiceRealEstateSchool.com)
- Real Estate Express (http://www.RealEstateExpress.com)
- Pass the Missouri and National exams. The pass rate for both exams is about 50% right now. Going to a good school, like the ones recommended above will greatly increase your chance of passing. Of course, you can take the test more than once if you do not pass the first time!
-
Take the 24-hour Missouri Practices course. You'll get more information about this class when you are taking your pre-Exam course.

- Apply for license. You must get fingerprinted prior to applying for license.
The total cost for this portion of the licensing is approximately $550.
A special note on costs: When you affiliate, or place your license, with a broker, you will have to join the St. Louis Association of Realtors or the St. Charles County Association of Realtors if your broker is a member. Most brokers that actively sell real estate are members of these associations. Membership at either association gives you automatic membership into the Missouri Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors (NAR). Members of these associations can have access to the Multiple Listing Service (this is where we put all listings that are for sale) and can have access to a SUPRA KEY (this key helps you unlock houses to show to your clients).
I note this because these memberships are not free! The St. Louis Association of Realtors charges a $300 one-time registration fee plus approximately $450 per year. The annual fee is prorated based on the month in which you join.
