How About A Splash Of Natural Gas In Your Kentucky Bourbon?

The Bluegrass Pipeline if installed, will stretch 1,100 miles from Pennsylvania to Louisiana and carry natural gas liquids. The area proposed to install is under some prime Kentucky land famous for it's legendary bourbon and thoroughbreds. Bardstown is one of the areas that could have pipeline installation. This town was voted the most beautiful town in America in 2012.

Kentucky Horse FarmWhen you own property in Kentucky, the land is more valuable if there are no easements that lie beneath. There are utility easements underground all over central Kentucky, as there are in most states. They are EVERYWHERE!

They can sometimes prevent you from building a pool or a structure where you would prefer because you have to survey exactly where the lines are and the easement that extends from them. Or as people are discovering now, some are a dangerous environmental hazard!

I do remember a farm that my family bought back in the 70's that had a natural gas pipeline running through the back pasture. It was already there and my parents didn't really give it much thought. They bought the farm anyway and there was never a problem with the pipe. I do believe the pipeline workers would show up every now and then to check on the line.

In recent times, we have heard of explosions at these pipelines like the one last year in Irvine, KY operated by the Columbia Gulf Transmission. I know it's not something those landowners thought would ever happen on their quiet horse farm.

The fireball blast was unbelievable! It is a pipeline that was installed back in 1966. This interstate gas line is under the jurisdiction of the Federal Pipeline And Hazardous Materials Safety Administration that is a part of the U.S Department of Transportation.

Hi Lizette, so nice to see your smiling face again :)  These aging pipelines are going to be making themselves know more in the future I have a feeling.

Hi Charles! So good to see you here! The world we live in is very unpredictable. Even our weather. It's hard to be protected at all!

Lizette - I first traveler through Kentucky when I was a teenager and I voted it most beautiful.  I hope the gas pipeline does not interfere with the beauty or the safety of those gorgeous horse farms.

So many buyers ignore these details when they should really be paying attention. The risks may seem small at the time but they have pretty bad consequences if something goes wrong and on the value of the land.

Lizette, it seems that there are enough public roads and places where they could run a gas line without having to run through farms and other private land.

Sharon, that does sound like a better idea. I wonder why they never do that?
