Close your eyes, take a deep breath and exhale . . .
Many moons ago there were a people who lived with what nature provided and were thankful. One of the gathering places for these people is now known as the Chitactac Adams Heritage County Park located just west of Gilroy and southwest of Morgan Hill on Watsonville Road.
Then called Chitactac, many now know them as the Amah Mutsun tribe of the Ohlone Indians. Records indicate John Hicks Adams bought this parcel of land in 1856 and school houses stood there until 1953. Imagine the changes in this civilization during those years.
Today this park is maintained by Santa Clara County Parks and more information as well as driving directions can be found here: http://www.sccgov.org/sites/parks/Maps%20Here/Pages/Chitactac-Adams-County-Park.aspx
You're invited to join the educators of WERC (Wildlife Education and Rehabilitation Center) and others on Saturday, 13 July 2013 from 10:00 to 2:00 for a special event to learn more about the people who lived in this bountiful area. We'll be bringing some non-releasable wildlife in our care for you to see closer than the nearest tree. Perhaps you'll even see a great horned owl only three feet away!
This is an opportunity to get closer to nature and meet the type of wildlife the Chitactac lived with and depended on. I look forward to taking part in learning more about these people and how they sustained their lifestyle in such a beautiful part of our world and I hope to see you there!
I'll follow-up with photos and appreciate you stopping by to share your thoughts. Peace be with you.
