Our Legacy on ActiveRain ---and Our Written Words

By
Real Estate Agent with Liberty Homes RS-#62825

We have been growing our ActiveRain Real Estate Network since the summer of 2006. It has grown into one of the largest real estate platforms that have a ‘hands on approach’ with the staff helping all of us to achieve a common goal.

MORE BUSINESS.

While being a member on ActiveRain since March of 2007 I have tried to be a driving “POSITIVE” source in ActiveRain.  It never fails to amaze me how we can take a negative and turn it into a positive. ….OR Vice Versa.

DO YOU DRIVE READERS AWAY FROM YOUR BLOG?

The Legacy We Leave Behind: I’ve always believed that we live …and we die and it’s what we do IN BETWEEN those two life events is what REALLY matters. We live our every day lives with good morals and values and we leave a lasting impression on our children, relatives, friends and even business associates. My ONLINE legacy and Presence IS a positive one and it is what I want to be remembered for.

Stir the Pot:  Some think that stirring the pot in a negative way is a great way to gain readership. Negativity breeds negativity.  Like kind attract like kind people. Okay, we all know that those that feel the need for attention will get a load of comments from others who feel they have been ‘wronged’. Those that focus on what others have …well, I feel sorry that they do not realize their FULL potential and what they DO have instead of focusing on what they have not. Cup Half Full or Pouring Out Empty?

Online Presence:  How we write online will affect our businesses, our connections and definitely our referrals. Write a condescending blog or comment and it will drive the consumer away from YOU.  Online words are out there to STAY. And get this—ANYONE is able to sign up on ActiveRain. You think a Members Only Post will not be read by the consumer. Again---ANYONE can join this real estate network and will read your blog. Choose to blurt out personal feelings against this network and you will have a truckload of us who believe in stewardship.

Real Estate Network:  Most of us are Real Estate Professionals and even those that have nail salons and such are part of the business community and use this network to ….NETWORK.  We network to connect as professionals and more often than not we MAKE FRIENDS along the way! I have received referrals and given referrals and THIS is the type of SUCCESS that I measure for my connections made here in the RAIN!

We Network and Connect……

And Content is King……

The Legacy We Leave Behind...

Online, ActiveRain....and LIFE.

What can we do for you today?

Thank you for your post but if my members only posts are not being seen my realtor members only I will no longer post as members only nor will I comment openly on my thoughts on topics. Again Thank you for your post it was very informative and useful. I really thought my comments were to members only those that were of the real estate field only. Have a blessed day we are always learning something here.

Oh yes I am sorry to hear that it is like this.

Great post, especially the reminder that a Members Only post is just a bump if a consumer wants to read it.

Active Rain is a great learning post that broadens my knowledge and horizons in the industry. I love reading the blogs from people all over the country. I put the TV down a year ago and picked up Active Rain which is more stimulating for the brain.  Thanks

Sally, There are some posts that I wish were mandatory reading for all participating members and this is one.  It seems no how many times the core message of this post is put out, some members refuse to grasp the importance of the message.  I don't have much time for pot stirrers, and I really fear for those that they lead astray with their negative message.  It actually hurts the community rather than building it up.  The groupthink involved is deceptive, the writer gets reinforcement over a perceived sleight, and truly nothing good comes out of it.  Unfortunately the writers and commenters that most need to read and heed probably either won't ever read this or if they do, not think it pertains to them.

Sally,

Great advice!

On the other hand, I often feel like Socrates, a social gadfly

"

False words are not only evil in themselves, but they infect the soul with evil." Socrates

I don't believe in going negative, but wrong is wrong!

I’.m not talking about different opinions, but endangering the public or naive readers licencee.

I pray that my legacy includes understanding and my epitaph reads "He was right."

Sally, This is a good reminder not only for our "Members Only" posts, but also our texting and e-mail messages.  I try to stay professional and positive in all my communications.  You never know who will see what you have written and it is a reflection of who we are.  I was recently engaged in a nasty FaceBook pile up where I was on the bottom of the pile.  It went on for several months until the Moderator finally took all the posts down and apologized for allowing it to occur, but during that time I got a number of e-mails from people who thought I handled myself professionally and with tact and dignity.  By now, few remember the content of the battle, but they remember the tone of the interchange and who was mean and who was nice.  It pays to take the high road, always!  Thank you for continuing to reinforce that message on AR.

Nice post.  I simply try to be positive but honest in all my written and verbal moments.  Sometimes the news is not so good.  But two sides to everything.  I find one'soverall attitude will always come through.  So choose your professionals wisely.

Helping you find your way home.

I have been telling posters this for years.  Just because you've designated your post as "member's only" doesn't mean that the general public can't read it.

Your clients can join Active Rain as members, so can your competition and your ex-wife and your boss.

Ralph:  I like when there is a positive message and your creative comment is something I wish I had :)

Jimmy:  That sounds like me in the first few years.  I now have 'learned' to get off at 7pm and retire to watch tv or I miss 'So you think you can dance' lol.

Liz and Alan:  Believe me...over the years I have written MANY posts on this same topic. It would seem that the message it is intended for are the ones who don't comment on. I'm sure it's being read though.

Gail...you are absolutely right! I had an agent who 'pretended' he was a seasoned agent who had a 'team'.  He would leave lengthy emails in response to my one sentence replies such as please make this a professional transaction. In the end he made the mistake of cc'ing my broker (who I had been telling about the course of the transaction. It started with him accusing my client of lying about what happened with a stain on the kitchen ceiling from grease. In the end, I cc'd his broker and he was 'dealt' with. Those emails are 'preserved' in my database lol.

I left a lengthy comment on your blog. FOLKS...read her post (Reflections on Our Journey With Pancreatic Cancer) and just know...that THESE are the connections we make on ActiveRain that make a difference. Those that choose to create havoc in 'public' instead of contacting staff or the individual they have a problem with is unacceptable.

PICK THE PHONE up and have a conversation with the other person before blasting them on a public forum. You will usually find that the other person is really a nice person.

Gary: Your statement----  Even a negative can be a positive if handled with consideration.  More often than not...someone will feel they are wronged and make a whole post about the staff, the person, a group and then some. I guess the extra points for a post is more important than being a professional and meeting half way to find a solution instead of being the ongoing problem.

Sally, Thank you for taking the time to share so much with me in your comment on my post. I will never forget your phone call when I was in the hospital with my husband and had just posted on AR about his illness and dire prognosis. I feel closer to you and some of my AR friends than my F2F friends. You are so right, the connections we've made over the years run deep. Thank you for your friendship.

This is a wonderful reminder of the legacy of words.  I hope that the open and honest opinions that many members do pour out will continue to be written without fear of a non member seeing them.  Even negative or ranting feelings can be couched in a way that do not reflect badly on the poster.
