Monsoon Season at The Master Planned Community of Gladden Farms
One of the items addressed when planning a Master Community such as Gladden Farms is water diversion. You can go to the FEMA site here for more information on flood plains in the Town of Marana, AZ.
Gladden Farms is surrounded by a myriad of parks and bike paths along its borders and within its various neighborhoods. They are lovely large areas of green.
Along about July, however, the monsoon rains start. "Flooding in Tucson, Arizona???" I'll often hear from visitors to our desert locale.
Yes.
The rains pour, and the ground is not absorbent, and the water has to run somewhere. We even have a stupid motorist law which basically means, if there is water crossing the road at an indeterminate level, and you enter it, and you get stuck, or carried away...well....it's against the law for you to be that stupid! Be aware that your car can float away at levels of only 6 inches!
Friday, we had rain for about 30 minutes.
See our lovely, but temporary, Lake Gladden Farms?
You can start to get an idea as to the amount of rain that can come down in a short amount of time, and how important water diversion is.
I love the sky in this one.
This was one of the milder monsoon storms that we have here in Tucson and Marana, AZ. Yes, we do have flooding in the desert.
The first storm to hit us this July 2013 knocked out power in West Tucson for several thousand residents. No joke at 100-degree temps.
We've spent more than a few evenings at the local mall when the power has gone out.
Desert beauty is breathtaking, but be careful. Be smart. Know if your home is in a designated flood plain. Know the precautionary steps to take and the facts of living in monsoon country. (Monsoon Safety)
