How to Get New Business 101

Who wouldn't like to find new ways to get new business?!  How about rescuing a chipmunk!  I know, totally crazy, silly; BUT that is exactly what I did.  My husband came home from the gym this morning; and the first thing that he said to me, "There's a chipmunk in our front garden. He doesn't 'look right'."  Hmmmm, what exactly doesn't "look right" mean to the average person?

Chipmunk

I spring into action.  Chipmunk in distress, oh my.  For all of those who don't know me very well, I should have been a veterinarian. However, the intelligent side of me knew that I would have to live on a very large farm!  As it is, my neighbors are thrilled that I keep all of the squirrels, raccoon, every species of bird and, of course, chipmunks out of their yards.

Therefore, when my husband tells me that a chipmunk is in our garden and doesn't 'look right', I'm out there faster than Wonder Woman with a box, blanket, gloves and my cell phone, of course.  Yep, made multiple calls and raced to Weston, CT, where they have this amazing wildlife rescue shelter, called     Wildlife in Crisis. As I hand over my poor, little chipmunk asking them all kinds of questions, answering more questions, followed with me saying, "When may I call and check on him/her/it?"  Short answer: they should know within about 24 hours! Gotta love those places that take care of crazy ladies like me who feed and rescue all kinds of critters.

Getting New Business was never on my mind, actually.  However, as I was leaving the center, I handed my business card to the gentleman to whom I had just inundated with multiple questions and a sick chipmunk.  I said, "Just in case I didn't fill out all of the appropriate information and you may need to contact me, here is my business card."

Honestly, it never occurred to me when I gave him my business card it was for any other purpose other than what I said.  Honestly, I swear.  However, he glanced at my card and said, "Oh, you're a Realtor. Wonderful.  We may be enlarging our space and needing more land."  Really?!  I mean, REALLY!  Very cool; you've got my card .... and my chipmunk!  Getting New Business 101!

Hi Ginny!  I call them all the time to check on him, too.  Yesterday they just laughed and said, "Why don't you call on Monday."  I'll be heading up to Weston next week and take pictures as they send him out to live a Chipmunk's Life! :)

Believe me, the know who I am!!

Christi, ok, next time I see a wounded chipmunk.... now that was smart! Hope the little guy is on the mend, and I know exactly how you feel about animals. I always wanted to be a vet when I was growing up. What's not to love about animals.

Hi Will! You never know!  Believe it or not; he's doing GREAT!  They were going to let him go yesterday, but I think they're going to wait another day or so.  I'll be there to photograph. :)

Patricia, thank you.  I will check it out.  'Munk' is doing well.

Kristin, funny how things work out.  Munk is thriving, and I may get new business down the road. Win/Win.

Andrea, thank you for checking out the blog.  I know, it's crazy, but I'm such an animal lover.  I, too, was going to be a vet; but I would have needed a very large farm .... :)

Christine, I am the same way with rescuing animals.  I once cried over a pigeon that died en route from my house to the emergency animal clinic. Some day I will have to write a blog post on all the critters I have rescued - thank you for the great idea and for taking care of those less fortunate.  You have a good heart.

I'm following up with a similar sort of prospect today. He is not a chipmunk, nor is he a chipmunk doctor.

Joan, that's true.  I always keep my business card handy! ;)

BTW, I watched 'my' chipmunk scamper off in a flash when he was healed!  Too fast to even get a picture!!
