Is the All-Star game just a popularity contest?

Like anything where the fans vote, it is not always the best of the best that get recognized.

The All-Star game for one is a fan voted event.

The announcers for a couple of weeks and even longer talk about the good players that get left out and some not as good ones get voted to play.

There are a handful of people who really know the sport and will vote for the best no matter what team they are on.

But, overall , the game belongs to the fans...they should be able to see who they like!

I missed most of it but am wathcing now.  I agree................the game does belong to the fans.  Works for me.  I'm glad Masterson and Kipnis are there to represent the Indians.

No matter where or what the contest, it is a popularity contest.

Pretty much a popularity contest. In some cases those that are getting the press will make it, but a small or poor franchise's player has a much lower chance of making it.
