Your Most Unusual Transaction - Transaction Horror Stories For Newbies

Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker Cascade Real Estate

I thought it migh be interesting to share some stories of transactions that went sideways or that had unusual twists...

1. The Closing that Wasn't: I had been an agent just a few months. One of my very first sales and it was time to go to the closing to have my buyers sign the documents. As we sat around the table and the escrow officer passed the documents to sign, the husband took a look at the first documents and announced "I can't sign this... it is made out incorrectly" We were perplexed and asked why. He then reached in his coat pocket, withdrew some documents and said because this is to be only in my name not hers... at which point he handed the documents to his wife... their notice of divorce... it was a tough rest of the day.

2. Spirits: I sold a 1920 style Tudor to a single lady and longtime friend (fortunately). A day, or perhaps two, before closing at about 8PM I get a panic call from the seller (she had tried to call her agent but her agent was gone) asking if I could come over to the house immediately as it was very improtant... and had to happen THEN. So I called my client, picked her up and went to the house. We were met by the home owner who was very distraught. She asked us to accompany her to the basement where we were confronted by a ciecle of candles and some burining sage. she asked us to please be seated and she proceeded to play her flute and chant. She was concerned the "spirits" of the houe needed to like the new owenr so her (new owner) stay would be good. I gotta admit, we thought of walking but being basically good people we sat down and hummed and chanted for about 15 minutes. Whereupon the owner said all was well and we could go... we did...boy did we. Well, the house closed. That was five years ago and my client still lives there...presumably with happy spirits!

Don't you love real estate for these reasons- (sorry about your buyer wife in the first case) - People think it is because we like to show houses - but it isn't that - it is that every day is different. Some are better than others!
