Kathleen Casey-Kirschling, Vero Beach, Florida, Seasonal Resident, Receives Her First Social Security Check
Kathleen "Kathy" Casey-Kirschling, center, and her husband Patrick, right, speak with Kel LaBranche, left, after a press conference Tuesday morning at the Indian River County Administration Building.
Kathy, who was born one second after midnight on Januray 1, 1946, is the nation's first Baby Boomer. Kathy made history yesterday as the first of our generation to receive a Social Security retirement benefit. As the first Baby Boomer, Kathy is leading what is often referred to as America's silver tsunami. Over the next two decades, nearly 80 million Americans will become eligible for Social Security retirement benefits, more than 10,000 per day on average!
On a personal note, it was a pleasure meeting Kathy. She said she loves Vero Beach. Vero Beach is a great place to retire to seasonally or, better yet, to reside year round. Just ask Kathy!
