St Matthews is one of the prominent suburbs of Louisville KY.  It is also considered one of the State of Kentucky's major shopping areas, playing host to the second and fifth largest malls in the State (Mall St Matthews and Oxmoor Mall), along with many more shops up and down Shelbyville Road leading all the way into the Frankfort Avenue / Crescent Hill area of Louisville.

Louisville MLS data for 2012 shows that the average sales price for homes that sold in St Matthews was between $242K-$330K.  Being that St Matthews is one of the more popular areas of Louisville to live, it was not surprising to see that 423 homes sold in the area during 2012 with an average sale price of approximately $280K.  Homes on the market in St Matthews for 2012 were up for sale for an average of 101 days before being sold and went for around 94.4% of their initial listing price.

ST MATTHEWS LIVING

St Matthews is a popular area for young professionals in Louisville.  The median age of those living in St Matthews, according to Census data, is slightly under 36 years of age.  St Matthews is also considered a more white collar area of the city, and the resident's median income hovers slightly St Matthewsabove $43K.  The area is pretty well-balanced between singles and married couples with the latter making up approximately 43% of the population.  Also of note, homes with children under the age of 18 made up only around 19% of the population.  Interestingly enough, a big part of the growth of St Matthews can be contributed to the Great Flood of 1937, which caused many residents at that time to seek areas of Louisville that were on higher ground.  

ST MATTHEWS LOCATION

Located seemingly in the middle of it all, St Matthews is near Interstate 264 and provides quick access to many areas of the city.  There is plenty to do in St Matthews with a multitude of dining options and the aforementioned plethora of shopping options.  Some of the notable dining options are Del Frisco's, which many claim has one of the best steaks in the city of Louisville, to Cafe Lou Lou which offers a bevy of locally sourced dining options and a great craft beer selection.  Young professionals also have a good selection of places to hit for happy hour with notable bars such as Molly Malone's, Bluegrass Brewing Company, Tin Roof, Drake's, and 60 West Bistro & Martini Bar all within basically one square block of each other.
