Recently the California Association of Realtors® (C.A.R.) conducted a “Home Buyer Survey” in which various details of California home buyers’ transactions were analyzed, such as the types of homes that were purchased, their buying preferences, client and real estate agent interactions and buyer demographics.
The California home buyers gave very candid responses to the survey questions regarding working with their Realtors® and their whole transaction process.
When asked what was the most important reason for selecting the agent that you used in your recent home purchase, response time was the most important.

Most aggressive – 19%
1st to respond – 17%
Negotiating ability – 14%
Distressed property knowledge – 12%
Previous relationship – 6%
Most knowledgeable – 6%
When asked to rate the importance of each of the following activities in using the internet, previewing homes online is most important to buyers. The California home buyers were asked to rate their home buying process on a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being “not at all important” and 10 being extremely important.
Preview homes – 8
Identify specific homes you want your real estate agent to show you – 7
Find a specific real estate agent – 7
Learn about specific neighborhoods – 7
Find a real estate firm – 6
Get information on home financing and down payments – 6
When asked to rate the importance of each of the following characteristics in selecting your agent using a 1-5 scale, where 1= “not at all important” and 5 = “extremely important,” reputation is the most important.
