FUN CARTOON ABOUT MESSY DESK

Ever wonder how the confluence of random threads of thought entering our brain can lead to ACTION?

Well especially for YOURS TRULY, who whether I like it or not is (or is it "am"?) a lateral thinker, not a linear thinker (like my husband Wayne).

Random Thread of Thought Number 1

A few days ago I notice my desk is starting to disappear under a mountain of piles.  Come to think of it, the credenza is also beginning to disappear from view.

Random Thread of Thought Number 2:

My fellow entrepreneur friend Steve Ilott of Decluttering.ca, Therapy for your Home sends me an article he wrote about getting rid of the Clutter Monkey.

Random Thread of Thought Number 3:

I come upon the above cartoon, while surfing the net this morning.

OK, IT's time for ACTION:

The last thing I feel like doing is clearing everything off my desk and other surfaces in my office, and putting items big and small "in their proper place" but I make a commitment to do it and my readers get to hold me accountable.

Yes, my desk is that way to the 5the level, I need to work on my systems!

Take care!

Looks like you broke into my office and took a photo of my desk.  The funny part is I can put my hands on anything in there.  If I clean my desk it takes me a week to find anything.

I admit that my desk does not look very organized to the outsider...but for me the clutter is organized!

This is me but I need to do something about it.  I put it on my list of things to do... no where is that list, it is somewhere in one of the piles on my desk...

That is a very accurate sketch of my desk.  I try, but one thing leaves, another plops itself in the it's place.  I work from home and share my desk with my children.  That is a whole blog in itself.  " Trials and tribulations of sharing a desk with kids".  I am slowly getting them their own laptops. 2 down 2 more to go.

Hilary, I love that cartoon picture -- that is my desk.  I try to clean it up about once a week or so, but inevitably it gets back to being cluttered within several days.  It's okay.  I'm the only one using it and I know where stuff is located.

All I can say is anyone who's desk is clean and uncluttered probably isn't doing a lot of deals or prospectingt!  Thanks everyone for confirming that being messy is part of the business!

Hilary - It's been a life long struggle for me.  I'm used to it, but it does tend to scare other people.  It must not bother me that much, because as clean as it gets while I'm on vacation (thanks to a neat & tidy assistant) I always revert back to my usual style.  It works for me.
