Are 'Empty Nests' a Thing of the Past...?

It used to be that parents would have their children, take care of them, watch them go off to college and never come back (only visited) unless something dire happened.

Since the 2007-2009 recession, however, it seems like senior homeowners are experiencing less of an empty nest and more of an overflowing nest. Children, grandchildren, sisters, brothers, everyone that was supposed to move out, has either come back or moved back in and now, a nest that was supposed to be empty, is full to capacity.

This recent trend has put a hamper on the previously established retirement idea that you and your spouse will be alone in your retirement.

Why is the nest overflowing? Many reasons:

  1. Bad economy
  2. Lack of Jobs
  3. Bad Housing Market
  4. More Children
  5. Extended Longevity

The list goes on and on, just like the bills that keep piling up.

A reverse mortgage program can be a possible solution you are looking for to help supplement your overflowing nest egg.

A reverse mortgage is available for senior homeowners 62 years of age and older, who live in their primary residence and have enough equity in their home. The options available to senior homeowners looking into applying for reverse mortgage are also extremely beneficial because they can take out a lump sum to pay off their mortgage, effectively eliminating an extra financial burden in their time of need.

In addition, reverse mortgages can provide a steady cash flow, in the form of tenure payments, which allow you to create (and manage) a budget based on your monthly income returns. Budget planning is an important component of retirement planning. The more reliable your income, the more accurate your budget can be.

Your previously empty nest is no longer empty. Keep your home, your family and your peace of mind during retirement with a reverse mortgage.

At PS Financial Services, we are here to advise you on your retirement planning, short-term and long-term. Our personalized service ensures that you are always taken care of so if you think a reverse mortgage is right for you, give us a call at (888)845-6630 or email us

My kids, 6 of them left home and never came back, empty nest.  I know it is a different time but it was because they were ver independent.  That is the way they were raised.

I wonder if teaching them iindependence from the get go is enough to sustain them in the long run. Some children go home after they've left for 10+ years, that's what makes it so shocking and troubling sometimes.
