Email Signatures-Cool or Too Much Information?

By
Real Estate Agent with eXp Realty

Email signatures are by nature, very individual.  We all have our own tastes and ideas about how we want others to see us.  I just found a company that lets you design your own email signature, adding pictures, text and even social icons.  It is supposed to work with multiple email providers, but I've only used it with Gmail so far.  The name of the company is WiseStamp.  I'm not sure how easy the design is with PCs or Macs, but it is very easy to use with the Chromebook.  I just downloaded it in the Chrome Store and it works great.

You'll notice in the screenshot below that I wrote a sample email to show what the email signature looks like.  It starts with "My Recent Pins" to Pinterest on the right sidebar.  You can show your most current pins, 3, 6 or 9 at once.  This side bar widget-like display shows up on the right side of the email body.  You can also configure this to show at the footer of the email signature.

At the end of the email body is the "traditional" email signature.  I have my name, brokerage name, contact information and my website address.  after that, the Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn icons show up.  Each icon is clickable and will take you to that particular social media website.  After that, you'll see the latest post to my Facebook business page that also shows the link to that post.

After that, I have a Twitter button, and then my latest review on Yelp.  Following that is a Pinterest button and finally an environmental advisory. Some people may find this signature to be to much information and I am likely to change it as I get feedback from it.  I like that fact that someone reading my email has multiple ways to interact with my website and social media pages without having to close my email.

I appreciate any signature with phone numbers. . . sometimes when I need to call on someone, I search my emails. .to find no signature at all. .

I like to stick with a traditional signature with the basic contact information and the appropriate legal disclaimers.

Thank you to everyone for your input.

Michael-Yes, you can limit how much you put in there.

Paul and Nina-I agree, I will be cutting back a little. Just wanted to illustrate the various options that are available. But I like the ability to customize it.

Richie-Maybe you're right! That would be nice to go back to simple and to the point.

Jeffrey and Harry-I think you will like the options available.

Roberta-There is a free version(I used that to make my signature). They also have pay versions, which get rid of the WiseStamp link.

I think the jury is still out on this, at least for mine, but you gotta have it. I'm not crazy about the environmental thing. Overkill

I have mixed emotions on this. Sometimes I just skip the nonsense in the signature. Just don't have the time to do it all. Sometimes I think simple is better.

Morris-I'm not looking to make an environmental stand, just wanted a little humor in there. I agree, everyone has their own personal taste. It's a fine line between not enough information and too much information.

Bill-You're right, sometimes simple is better.  Everyone has their preferences. Sometimes I get the feeling some people don't even read the entire email, much less the signature.

I like to give my business info in my email signature- and in the past I have used the mylivesignature.com service to create moving signatures.  They are cool, and eye-catching!  Kathy

OK - so you have put some really cool things on your 'signature'! I know I shouldn't admit this but don't use Pinterest - just haven't really figured it out. I do use Yelp - but how do I put my last 'Yelp' there???

Susan-If you go into Wisestamp from your email account(once you've installed WiseStamp), click "edit signature", then click "email apps". Click on "social" and scroll down until you see Yelp. Click that and it will ask for your Yelp username. Once you've done that, it should be in your signature. See the screenshot below for a little help:

Hope this helps! Thanks for commenting.

I used to have Wise Stamp on my gmail account but they have REALLY upped their ante - wow! I love that there is so much that you can do with it - especially love the Yelp recommendation, but it is a very long signature. Test it out with real people and see what they say.

You always have to consider what value do those icons add.  Also load speed for email of the receipent could be effected and finally some email servers may look at all of this at the end of the message and decide you are sending spam.

Jason- Looks like you've received a lot of good feedback. I am so impressed you were selected as a Featured Post! Congratulations. For me branding is important.  My signature has my real estate photo, my website and phone # along with a row of social media buttons. I want people who are on their cell phone's  to be able to tap on the phone # or a social media button and get right to me or my latest post.

Hi Jason, Thanks for this information, and I will have to check out Wisestamp soon. I created a similar signature block in word that all my Social Media Icons, etc, but I was thinking about making is shorter. I believe me is just like Peggy's above since I did add my photo and a disclaimer too.

Peggy-I have gotten so much great feedback.  Thank you for the congratulations.  As you know, your email signature inspired me to write this post.

Jerry-Thanks for commenting.  I did modify my signature since this post, including a disclaimer and a couple of other changes, based on some of the feedback I received from folks on here.  I did a blog update that shows the changes: http://actvra.in/YGq
