Bright sun and deep shade make up summer in Salt Lake City UT

bright sun and deep shade in Salt Lake City

The Salt Lake Valley Utah has an average of five days each summer where temperatures exceed 100 degrees.

With our temperature observations for our high altitude desert location we realize that we are parochial in attitude, and that lots of the country gets their thermometers to read much higher

Today we are expecting 103 degrees, hotter even than St George UT that can barely scrape up 97 degrees because of thunder storm activity. Today is day 16 above the century so far this summer. The next few days will take the number even higher.

The warmth is hardly a cause for concern ~ after all, we are only a couple of months away from the snows of Near Winter. The heat and the cold variations temper the delightful Utah spirit.

The record is twenty one days over 100 degrees. This record stands to be broken.

I hope you are all enjoying your summer.

Larry,  Wow it is hot in your area.  We haven't seen temperatures that high yet in Denver.  Stay cool out there.

Barbara - we are in the midst of Pioneer celebrations so nobody notices the heat. The Salt Lake Valley, in Sandy UT has been a great life choice for me. I am starting to feel I have been here all my life.

Belinda - we don't mind sharing. Wait a day or so. Your extra 700' elevation may have protected you so far.

Larry - I love your creativity and how you tell the news about what's going on in your area. Sandy, UT is more familiar to me today just because of you and your interesting facts and perspective. I wish more people were as talented as you.

And it was so cold here in Vermont last night that I had a fire in the fireplace and the heat going - 52 degrees last night.

Great pictures on your post.  In a way, it would be nice to break the record.  In another, it is probably causing a lot of people a lot of discomfort.

Patricia - when the mid-stage on my truck lift sticks, then the temps are getting up there (just a smidgen of metal expansion). This is the first year in a while when we have not been plagued by summer roadworks. Sandy UT is waiting for you.

Lisa - Last month passed us with no rain anywhere in the State. So far in July we have an inch or more, so this tempers the living. With sundown around 9pm, the early evening hours are very pleasant. Yesterday we took part in a community walk-around (with specific stops for chatting, cookies etc.) ~ very pleasant experience for the end of day, meeting and greeting lots of locals. At least you are getting practice for the colder months somewhere ahead.
