Got to Meet John Hiatt...As Many of You know I'm a Big Music Fan. I've been a fan of John Hiatt for more than 25 years. I've only been married for 24 years, so this is a long term relationship for me.
Now some of you are asking...who the heck is this guy. This guy, John Hiatt, makes other singers look good. He writes the songs other performers make hits. Bonnie Raitt did Crazy Little Thing Called Love. Suzy Bogguss did Drive South. New Grass Revival did Angel Eyes...a wonderful ballad, and a great song. Well they all are. But John Hiatt can not only write, he can sing and play the guitar. I know there are more people that have done his songs, but I'm not up on most current performers from this century. His music has also been played in movies and TV shows....some other things I'm not really current on. But I do know a good singer/songwriter when I see one. Me, Sierra and my friend, Ted, danced the night away thanks to John Hiatt.
My daughter, Sierra, and I saw John Hiatt in concert on Monday night in Grand Junction, CO. We got to meet him after the show. What a really nice man. You can see from his smile how genuine he is. That's Sierra in the picture with him. He truly enjoyed meeting me, Sierra and the handful of other fans that stayed behind for an autograph. As a side note...next time don't make us bang on the tour bus to get you to come out, John. Just joking. LOL.
John Hiatt's show in Grand Junction, at the Mesa Theater, was fantastic. He played a lot of songs off his Slow Turning CD...which is one of my favorites. This guy probably has about 15 CDs in print. John couldn't believe how rocked out and welcoming we were for a Monday night. I reminded him that Friday was only four days away, and us Western Slopers are always up for a great show...no matter what the night of the week.
I was so taken with his easy personality. I wanted to talk with him about his writing. I really have a lot of admiration for someone that can play with words like he does. But I didn't want to take up a lot of his time, and we just enjoyed meeting him and he talked about his daughters...who are much older than mine. Sierra is only 16 and loves his music. I told John that Sierra is probably his youngest true fan.
I'll be sure to see John Hiatt the next time he comes around the Western Slope. Rumor has it, he may be in Telluride for the Blues and Brews Festival.
