Happiness...It's a Daily Endeavor
I admit it, I'm not always a shiny, happy person.
Does that mean I'm a grouch? No. I have my bad days just like anyone.
You know what I'm talking about...those days where you wake up on the wrong side of the bed. You're exhausted. You have a full day of work ahead of you. It's raining or snowing or hot. On top of all that, there's no coffee.
However, I do try to have more good days than bad days. One site, however, is trying to be Happier, all day, every day. I have to commend Nataly Kogan for her website because it's something that people don't try enough.
According to an article in ABCNEWS, 'Shiny, Happy People Have a Site to Call Their Own,' Kogan co-founded Happier when working at Microsoft and selling a multimillion-dollar company to PayPal didn't make her 'truly happy.'
And I think it's a concept we don't think enough about. Sure, we chase the "dream" of happiness but do value the things that make us truly happy?
- How about playing with your dog after a long day of work?
- How about taking a hike up a mountain and breathing in the clean air when you get to the top?
- How about enjoy that vanilla ice cream you've been craving all week?
Happy "moments" are more realistic than being happy all the time. We all have bad things happen in our lives but what do we do with it?
For example, you're driving down the expressway and someone cuts you off insomuch that you crash into their back bummer. Something bad happened, but is that going to get you down your whole day? It shouldn't because the stress of it all will end up eating you alive.
I recommend doing something that makes you happy at least once a day, whatever it is. You know how they always say, "pay yourself first?" well pay yourself first...in happy moments.
I know it all sounds cheesy, but it's true! How many times are we so busy we miss everything that's going on? We're all guilty of it.
The point is to not let it happen again or too often. Don't be obnoxiously happy, just be a happier you, everyday.
