As a real estate lawyer, I am a bit appalled by this because it seems to be a betrayal of agents by NAR. This cannot possibly be in the best interests of the consituency of NAR..so why did NAR do it? Money....Da da da

Has NAR Sold Out Its Members  Again...Or Is It Me?

Touted as an 'historic' change to the National Association of REALTOR® contract with MOVE, Inc the operator of REALTOR.com, the once premier site for property listings will now be opened up allowing new homes, rentals and communities not listed by REALTORS®.

These amendments were voted on yesterday in Chicago.

Read the article in full and the comments, and tell me how this benifits my business.  I might be missing something.

Here are all the amendments.

You are correct about no in Realtors best interests.  Realtor.com said they could not compete with Zillow and needed to do this to survive in the real estate world.  Next is For Sale by Owners.com will be on there approved listings.

They are in the business of making money first and foremost. I have always felt that the finances were number one. This shows it.

I have questioned many of NAR's motivations on some issues....but this one directly impacts the members of NAR!!

Thanks for the reblog, we're in good company in our opinion of this action.  Brad Inman calls it "The full catastrophe"

I have not found anyone other than the media and NAR who seem pleased with this. I know I am not happy about it.

Realtor.com is NOT the NAR.

The pittance received by the NAR for feeding Realtor.com shows just how little the NAR respects the hard work agents and brokers do to BRING THIS LISTING INFORMATION TO the MLSs.

Anyway, that horse left the barn back in the early 1990s.  The 30 pieces of silver received by the NAR from R.com was the biggest sell-out in the history of the NAR.

Realtor.com may not be NAR -- but NAR board is one who is making decision - and paying for the cost of the directors' expenses at the meeting (per the news article.)

I am sure professionals are not happy. We yet to see how bad it could be for the agents.

Certainly seems like a maneuver born out of financial considerations as opposed to the best interests of the constituency
