Social media is taking the world by storm. As an experienced business person, you’re probably well aware of the hype. You can’t escape it, and why should you? Facebook, Google +, Twitter—let’s face it, they’re here to stay—so use their benefits to your highest advantage!
Granted, you can’t rely completely on social media to market your business; however, you can use it for its most obvious purpose: to be social. Facebook and Twitter are perfect for keeping your clients updated on new services, specials, and the constant flow of new information that is useful to your audience.
Follow these 5 easy tips to ensure you get the most out of your social media marketing:
- Plan and schedule. You don’t have to do it alone. Use online tools, like Hootsuite, to schedule future posts and view all your social media mediums on one easy-to-use dashboard. Tip: It’s good to have regular posts, but if a great idea pops to mind—use it! Share a link to a relevant article your clients would enjoy—just don’t over-do it.
- Quality is key. Make sure your posts are meaningful and relevant, or they will be ignored. Humor is good to use, but it should be used carefully and strategically. Nobody likes that person who makes a post every hour on the hour about something way out there in left field. Don’t be that guy—be respectful of others’ news feed space.
- Watch your insights. Don’t just post and forget, pay attention to which posts are more successful than others. Once you start to notice the pattern about what information your audience enjoys, you can alter your posts to please more clients and gain a wider sphere of influence by offering relevant content.
- Integrate social and traditional marketing. How do you expect to get people to your Facebook, Twitter, or Google + page if you don’t tell them how to find you? If you have a Twitter handle, include it on your business card, promo magnets, or other marketing hand-outs. Try including a QR code on your business card to link clients directly to your Facebook page or website. Don’t forget to include a call-to-action and/or incentive on your traditional marketing i.e. “Like my page on Facebook for a free consultation.”
- Be Social! Go figure, the purpose of social media is to be social—who knew?! This is your opportunity to engage with current and prospective clients: talk to them, ask them questions, give useful content and by all means learn from your experience.
Don’t be afraid of social media, at the same time—don’t count on it to carry your business to the top. Social media is a great way to stay in touch and network, so make sure all your content is relevant to your sphere of influence, and they will be excited to engage and help your social media presence grow.
