Worthington Glacier Near Valdez, Alaska

On our recent trip to Alaska we visited the towns  of Anchorage, Hope, Moose City, Seward, Homer, Kenai, Talkeetna, Fairbanks, North Pole, and Valdez.  We flew into Anchorage and rented a RV and off we went! We actually visited more places than that but some were just places... Like the Arctic Circle Line.  Anyway... We flew in, rented an RV and then hooked up with some friends from Texas and Mississippi who had taken their own RVs -- THEY'RE retired and can do that! HA!

While in Valdez we took a hike up to the Worthington Glacier. Here's a short photo-blog of that experience. I hope you enjoy!

A shot from the road.

Joni, that was an adventure, and the pictures are gorgeous, but I bet they are nothing like the real thing.

Now make yourself up a T-Shirt :)

Hi Joni, I love the pictures and what a great adventure to go Alaska and visit all the spots you folks hit on your trip. I am sure you folks had a great time. You deserved to get away from the Real Estate stuff for awhile.

It is my understanding that this glacier has shrunk a great deal. I really want to take a trip there now.

There is something about that magical blue trapped for eons inside the glacier that stirs the imagination.  Nice photos, Joni!

Dorie: LOL! It was great fun! The hike was as much fun as getting there! I loved it!

Roy: You should go in their Spring. You both would be amazed at all of the flowers.

Anita: Me too! That blue is incredible!

George: NOTHING!

Bob: We both answered and returned phone calls while we were away so things went smoothly while we were away. But now we are playing catch up! :)

Sussie: That is what we read as well. This glacier is HUGE but it used to be even larger.

Sharon: I don't think you will be disappointed. We did the cruise and train package the first time and the RV this time. Both were great!

Bill: Thanks for taking the virtual tour with us! :)

Christine: We have taken a helicopter ride and landed on a glacier. But I was not about to climb up to the top of this one. I prefer the gentle drop off of the helicopter. HA!

Mary: You really need to go and see it for your self! It's worth the trip!

Endre: We went there but the salmon were late running this year.

Myrl: I'm not one to believe the blue has been trapped for eons. I'm thinking about 6,000 years since creation. :)

LOL @ Yvonne! My hands are resting on them in the last photo. The gloves are sitting on top of one of my cameras, my hands on top of the gloves, and the lens is peeking through. Rick is using my other camera to take the picture. Whew.... hauling two cameras, one with a huge lens up to that glacier was a workout! HA!

Rebecca: I am pretty sure we will do this again. I could spend months there exploring if I had the time!

Eric: We did that in 2010. If you are going to do the train ride to the Wilderness Lodge, do it first. We did it after the cruise and wished that we had started with it and finished the vacation on the cruise.

Joan: We went with the same folks that we meet up with each summer in Colorado. We are considering flyng somewhere near Denver for Christmas. We are missing our Colorado experience this year! :)

Hi Joni! My husband was stationed in Valdez when he was in the Coast Guard, many years ago. He always talks about going back to see it, and wishes that we had the time to make that trip. Lucky you!!!
