Chocolate Lily

When we did our bear excursion, one of the things we did on our hike out to see the bears was to stop and smell the flowers. Sounds nice, huh?! NOT with Chocolate Lilies!! Don't let the name fool you! These little beauties smell like poop! No really -- they do! I'm sure the guides have pulled this same joke on many a tourist! :) Actually, they were kind enough to warn us of the lovely scent first.

For those of you reading this from Huntsville, Texas, it smells a whole lot like Monterrey Mushrooms in Madisonville. (OH MY!!)

They may smell bad, but they sure look nice. We have orange and purple and orange daylilies growing at my house. They are just now blooming and they look so nice.

Joni,

Great chocolate lily and I don't remember seeing any but remember the bees were larger than the ones in my area. Thanks for sharing and your Alaska pictures are wonderful.

Hmm, not exactly something I would want growing in my garden, even if they didn't smell like 'poop'.
