The Gardens of Meeting House Hill. Willard Square
South Portland, Maine
As I walk around this neighborhood, I am reminded of a bygone era. When I lived
in this neighborhood, almost ten years ago, I enjoyed this great little neighborhood on the scenic coast of Southern Maine. The Willard Beach area was our little secret. A place to call home. On this particular rainy day, I am reminded why my memories of this place are so fond. It's a colorful and varied tapestry of all walks of life and styles all living together under a common theme of love of their community. A great place to live. Guess what? The secret is out. As more people discover what a desirable are Willard Square, Ferry Village and Meeting House Hill are and lifestyle it fosters, gentrification has entrenched itself for the better. What's all this have to do with gardens...I 'll have to show you in a walking tour of the area. It's kind of a tradition in the Willard Beach community, whether you live in a beachy bungalow
or a traditional Colonial, residents here take their flower gardens seriously. Whether it's love of flowers or hatred of mowing the grass, one thing is for certain blooms of every color and style abound and spill onto the streets for all to enjoy. Please take a moment to smell the proverbial roses and enjoy the sea air as the fog rolls in this afternoon.
