Wal-Mart Supercenter Has Won the Battle and Will Open in Redlands, CAWal-Mart Supercenter Has Won the Battle and Will Open in Redlands, CA

Wal-Mart officials announced Monday that Judge Donald Alvarez of San Bernardino County Superior Court has ruled that Walmart can proceed with the building and opening of a Super Center Wal-Mart in Redlands, CA.

In November 2012, the Redlands Good Neighbor Coalition had filed a lawsuit to stop the opening of a supercenter in the city. The coalition felt the supercenter giant would ruin the small town feel and hurt local businesses already established. Another reason for the lawsuit was the environmental impact on the area which could cause threats to the wildlife.

Wal-Mart was excited about the ruling and will be proceeding with the plans to get the new store built. The center will add many jobs and give consumers affordable merchandise.

The “Redlands Crossing” center will be at Tennessee Street and San Bernardino Avenue in Redlands near the I-210 for easy freeway access. The pad is 32.9 acres and includes the 215,000 store plus room for other retail and commercial opportunities.

At this time, there is no proposed date for the grand opening.

Kristin, I know that people hate them, but they really do add a lot to the local economy.  From my experience, most people will continue to shop where they are the most comfortable.  That isn't always Walmart.

Hi Brian,

Yes it is a small town but one of the oldest in California and lots of politics and conservatives who picket on the corners sometimes. It is a great city and many citizens care about the small businesses and do not really see the big picture as how the economy will be boosted by this superstore. All the cities in California are hurting after the redevelopment money was taken away so this will really help.

Hi Sharon,

At least they won't have to put a freeway exit in as there is already one there. Hooray.

Hi Tony,

In our area, the Wal-Mart is always packed and all the lines are open so it makes it easy to check out fast. I like the SuperCenters and they are in good areas, have secuity patrols and frankly I think they have the best prices. 2 blocks from this proposed site is another big store but no one seems to care about them being there. I am wondering why unless someone is related to someone else and wants to keep them out. Also 1 block the other way is a big box home improvement store so what is wrong with Wal-Mart?

Hi Joshua,

I am excited as I do not like the other one nearby and had started shopping in Beaumont 22 miles away.

Hi Endre,

I think sometimes the ones with the most attorneys win but the lawsuit didn't seem to have much merit. Most consumers are more interested in getting the best price for their money vs spending more so a few birds, coyotes, and frogs do not have to be relocated. I am an environmentalist and care but do we go to far sometimes?
