New Profile Pages are on the Way
In the near future, ActiveRain will be taking the second step in our redesign of the site. The first step was the header for the entire site. Step #2.....Profiles.
We are really excited about the new profile pages on ActiveRain. They have a much cleaner design and really allow you to highlight certain things in a much better manner, including other areas that you do business (Until now, you had to pick one town/city.....soon you will be able to tell us everywhere you do business). Part of the philosophy behind the new redesign is to give you better tools to generate inquiries from consumers. The new profile pages will have a few small tools like that and then you will really start to see those tools blossom when the blog pages get redesigned.
Did You Mess Something Up?
I'm writing this in the loop post today because in the process of redesigning the profile pages, we had to make some changes to your name fields on your profile. For years, in order to tell people who you are and what you do (or where you are from) you have had to manipulate the name fields in your profile in order for your signature, when you leave a comment, to give all the pertinent information (that is a ridiculous sentence grammatically, but I couldn't figure out how to say it any better).
As a part of the profile redesign, we engaged a data company to come in and break up your name field so that your name is the only thing that actually shows up in the name field. Any other information you had in the name field was placed in the 'display name' field.
So whereas before, my name field was: Bob Stewart, ActiveRain Community Evangeslist
We edited that to be
Name: Bob Stewart
Display Name: ActiveRain Community Evangelist
Now when you leave a comment, the entire thing will display. And it also allows us to move forward with the new profile design without a bunch of messy data.
What Do I Need to Do?
However.......there are over 300,000 profiles on ActiveRain. And a bunch of them don't necessarily fit in a neat little box. So despite our best efforts, there may be a few little hiccups along the way. In the next day or so, check out your profile to make sure your name is displaying properly both on the profile, and when you leave a comment on someone's blog post.
And of course, stay tuned. Those new profiles are right around the corner!!
