Some really cool hardwood floors

hardwood flooring with medallion rye westchester NYI have been to several really cool homes these last few days.  Here are some pictures of the wonderful hardwood floors.  Check them out!

The first one is a medallion in a beautiful home in Rye I went to see yesterday.  This is in her entryway.  She has many really cool and unique festures in her home with a whole handpiainted dinig , a library with herringbone floors and cherry paneling, and lovely handpainted wood bureaus in the bathroom.  Oh, and the kitchen has an open floor plan and I love the cabinets.

parquet hardwood with border dobbs ferryThe second one is from a historic home in Dobbs Ferry.  It was built in 1880 and it is just wow.  It takes you back to a different era.  The parquet is intricate and the rooms have inlaid borders made of oak, walnut and maple - different borders in different rooms.  This is quartersawn white oak, and it will look amazing when it's fully restored.  The ceilings are so high.  I should have measured - at least 12 ft but I have a hunch maybe more like 14 ft or even more.  Tons of fireplaces and each unique.  I think this is also the highest basemolding I have ever seen on walls.  My customer is moving in tomorrow.  But, shortly thereafter, they will be refinishing these floors and we put together a maintenance plan so we can preserve these unique floors.

These may not be the best pictures and the wood needs to be refreshed with a good sand & refinish, and I'm hoping to see what they look like afterwards.

Debbie, I love the hardwood, it is such a nice warm look.  Unfortunately, there is not the demand down here like there is up north, more properties here have travertine and porcelean.

Debbie, what cool floors!  we see some really interesting flooring in some of the homes that Harry Wardman designed in the early 1900's.  The patterns are sometimes so inticate and intereting.  Next time I see one, I'll pull out my iPhone and send you a picture!

Debbie,

These are amazing floors.  The floors in the Paris apt where we stayed had some of that type on inlay work, and they could have used your expertise, do you travel for floors?  LOL A

Debbie:  Really nice, and classy way to do wood flooring!  I have seen medallions in stone but never in wood, that I can remember!

Over the years, have purchased a number of properties that have had hardwood floors with some of the most amazing designs and patterns. Always had them refinished.

Debbie, I don't know how long it would take an 1880's craftsman to complete a design like that but it's excellent to see that you are the one to give it another 100 years of enjoyment to many.

I love the old  homes. I was in a few yesterday and the wide planks from teh 1700's are really quite interesting.
