Polk County Community Needs....

On Tuesday night, 76 local residents attended one of three public meetings which discusses Polk County's future growth.  Though they all share different opinions, there is one thing that they all share in common - the current growth plan needs to be improved.

They stated that there should be more affordable housing for the area residents along with saving green spaces.  One of the suggestion for this is encouraging owners of agricultural land to stay in business and also to invest in conservation lands.

Other concerns were having schools, roads and park systems in place before new development were approved and not after.

Overall, the officials were pleased from the citizens participation and look forward to working together at the other meetings.

Additional meetings, which will run from 6 to 8 p.m., will be held Thursday at Ridge Community High School, 500 W. Orchid Drive, Haines City, and Jan. 30 at Lake Gibson High School, 7007 N. Socrum Loop Road, Lakeland. Both meetings will be in the cafeteria at the schools.
