City of Buffalo announces new security program for Residents and Businesses
CodeRED is a new emergency notification service by which city officials can notify Buffalo residents and businesses by telephone, cellular phone, text message, or electronic mail about time-sensitive emergency situations or important community alerts. The system is capable of sending messages only to specific neighborhoods or the entire city. Only authorized officials are allowed access to the system.
CodeRED was recently launched in other parts of Western New York and has had some great success thus far. Hamburg recently adopted the program and used it immediately after the first response call during the Toys R Us murder back in June. The CodeRED system was able to notify over 700 businesses in the area. Town Officials had the alert out in just 17 minutes.
You can click HERE to sign up for alerts online. The entire process took me about 2 minutes. You will need to enter basic information, like property address, email address, mobile number, and service provider. If you have an iPhone or Android you can click HERE to download the CodeRED app or just search your app store. For residents who do not have access to a computer, you can call the City of Buffalo's Call and Resolution Center at 311 or 716-851-4890 and a representative will enroll your address or business. To add multiple addresses, just re-register each one. You will not be able to enter them all at one time.
