Meet SGT Paul Podhorn, a decorated war veteran, that was shot in the head by a sniper while serving in Iraq. He started his day unlike any other but knew that this day felt somewhat strange to say the least. He recalls being out on mission and hearing "a loud crack" followed by a massive headache. As he drifted in and out of consciousness, doctors and medical staff tried to explain to him what had just happened, but all he could think about was his wife Karen. Paul and Karen spoke every morning via Skype and he needed to tell her that he was ok. After a 9+ hour surgery and evacuation to Germany, it was then that Paul would be told that he had narrowly escaped death by one-quarter of an inch. His extensive injuries included a large surgical scar on the left side of his head and a form of paralysis that effected the right side of his body. Doctors speculated that he would never walk again or have use of his right arm. Nobody expected him to survive such a horrific event, but his warrior spirit wouldn't give in.
After many months of grueling rehabilitation SGT Paul Podhorn has made a miraculous recovery. He has re-learned how to walk and use his fine motor skills. Aside from the large surgical scar on the right side of his head, it is hard to tell that that this could have ever happened to him. He is truly one of God's walking miracles!
