Social Media Mistakes & Fixes: Camping Out in Someone Else's Yard
Social Media Mistake: As a newbie to blogging and the social media aspect of it all, I made what I consider a HUGE social media mistake. You see, I didn't really understand how commenting on other people's blog posts was supposed to work. It is all about them when you comment on their post, and absolutely nothing to do with you. What did I do? I would comment on a blog post and use my full signature line at the end of each and every comment. Yep - including website address and phone number. Not good!
Social Media Fix: If there is one thing I've learned over the years of blogging, it is that once something is out there in the blogosphere, it is there to stay. So, there is no way to actually fix the mistakes I made initially. What I did was to no longer put my signature line in any of my comments - or anywhere else that wasn't my property. You see, a blog is like someone's castle. Just as you wouldn't go into the royal castle in London and put your American flag over their doorpost, don't go to someone else's blog and advertise your own services!
