Social Media Mistakes & Fixes: Don't Be Naive

Social Media Mistake: I'm a friendly person. Many of you who have previously read or subscribed to my blog know this about me. I love to be social and I love social media because it gives me that opportunity to be social. One of my big social media mistakes which happened very early on in my social media adventure was trusting everyone. I learned the very, very hard way that everyone isn't on your side. Not everyone is trustworthy. Not everyone will want to work together. Unfortunately, I was burned in a rather brutal manner by asking for advice/help from someone who wasn't that kind of person. Now, don't be confused - there were a lot of very helpful people involved in my entry into the world of social media marketing. I don't know

Social Media Fix: I learned the hard way that you can't trust everybody. Don't be naive! What you see with social media is not always what you get. Choose your "friends" wisely. Not everyone who seems nice, really will be nice. But the most impotant lesson is, don't take it personally. When you encounter people who don't want to help you, move on. Believe me, there is no shortage of people in ActiveRain who are ready, willing and able to help you!

I agree 100%.  I was very hesitant to do some of the social media - mainly due to privacy.  I have been very careful to pick my friends and aquaintenances.  I have heard some horror stories but luckily haven't experienced them as of yet.  Thank God!  Great post and very useful information.  It is always good to be reminded of this!

Thanks for stopping, Brenda. Glad that I'm not the only one who's been in this situation, but also glad that you have gained some support online in spite of the hesitancy. I've done the same thing and happy that I stuck it out.
