In April, I wrote about my experience trying to connect with various contractors at the Apple Valley annual Home and Garden show. We have several projects in mind and wanted to hire someone to complete them. Although we left contact information with about a dozen vendors, nobody had responded as of the time of writing that post.
Finally, a concrete contractor called. Well, he actually responded to my several calls, but the initial contact was at the show. He showed up after rescheduling his initial appointment. He pulled into our driveway, and I asked him to move his pickup a little to the right so my wife could get into the garage. She was due home any minute. He proceeded to move over with the truck a couple feet off the side of the driveway. That was not an issue, but he also crushed two half-barrel planters in the process. He expressed surprise but no sorrow or apology. No he did not offer to compensate me for the damage.
We then discussed the driveway replacement, new slab next to the garage, and new patio. He looked up in the air said that it would be about $12 thousand. That was the extent of his estimate. We chose another contractor.
