College Station Named Top 10 US College Town
Hot off last week's announcement that it was one of the 10 Great Places to Live, College Station was name a Top 10 US College Town by Livability.com for the third year in a row. College Station is tied with three other cities (Boulder, Ann Arbor and Athens) as being the only cities named three times in the four year history of Livability.com's Top 10 College Towns list. We are also the only city in Texas to ever make the list all four years: College Station was named but unranked in the very first Livability.com list in 2010.
Why did Livability.com name College Station as part of its list of Top 10 US College Towns? How could it not? Texas A&M is as much a part of the fabric of College Station as the city itself. Unlike most other colleges and universities across the county, the City of College Station was actually built around Texas A&M instead of erecting a university in the middle of the city. That's part of why the residents feel as much loyalty to the school as the students do. With local restaurants, bars and stores offering regular student discounts and decking out in the Aggies' maroon and white colors on game days, you quickly understand that the city and the university are practically fused into one cohesive unit.
Another reason College Station was named a Top 10 US College Town? Students at Texas A&M are happy to give back to the community that shows them so much love, too. Every semester, Aggie students build a Habitat for Humanity home in Bryan-College Station. Thousands of students rally together each year for The Big Event, where they go into the community to pick up trash, paint homes, and help residents spruce up their College Station yards. It has become the single largest student-run service project in the entire country.
