Points are not Demerits, they are Navigational Tools!

I recognized the value of Active Rain Points in terms of posts and later in terms of comments, but the BIG picture took a while.

They are designed to make you a better Blogger overall.

So even the little ones matter.

I often put AR  contests on the back burner. Maybe I do half or so of the contests.

But today alone, when I ventured outside my comfort zone and  did QA posts for one contest and Social media blunders for another, I am noticing all this extra buzz while I blog about new topics just to get a few points.

So follow the bread crumbs. I mean points. They are the Navigational Tools to get to become a better Blogger. 

After all, blogging is marketing. And marketing us what we do as Realtors.

Cheryl, We've gotten pretty selective about which challenges/contests we'll do, but typically there's a very clear reason why the AR Staff has them out there:  either to build business directly or build relationships in the Rain.

Hi Cheryl, great blog post, it took me a while to see why I should care about points and the activities that earn them.  Then when I saw the things that I would learn by doing these activities, I became hooked on the process and things just seem to be getting better all of the time.

Cheryl- well done.  I've done contests to support the person sponsoring them and to write the kind of posts we need to be writing.  You made an excellent point though, points are breadcrumbs or navigational tools!

Cheryl, never thought of it like that. I recently did the social media blunders contest as well and, as from the point, it was really fun to let loose and blog about something else. It can really make you a better blogger if, in your search for points, you venture into new adventures.
