Ski Town, USA Gone to the Dogs

  We all know that Steamboat Springs, CO is an amazing place to live and play. It's called Ski Town, USA and Bike Town, USA for good reason. But now Dog Town, USA? What's next?

Steamboat Springs was appropriately trademarked Ski Town USA for its World Class skiing facilities and loads of fresh champagne powder. National Geographic named The 'Boat, as locals affectionately refer to it, as one of the World's 25 Best Ski Towns.  Not to mention more winter Olympians, 79 to be exact, call Steamboat Springs their hometown - more than any other town in the US.

More recently, Steamboat has adopted the identity of Bike Town USA. With 500+ miles of singletrack, endless road cycling  opportunities, BMX tracks, the Core Trail system and a community of passionate cyclists, Bike Town USA is a well-earned brand. In 2011 the League of American Bicyclists acknowledged Steamboat's efforts and dedication to cycling by naming it a Gold level Bicycle Friendly Community. The cycling and community are so ditinguished here that for the 2nd year Steamboat Springs will host a stage of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge later this month. We're told that Chris Froome, the winner of the 2013 Tour de France, will be racing in this one for the first time.  

Dog Town, USA

Now, according to an article from Steamboat Pilot and Today, Dog Fancy magazine has named Steamboat Springs "Dog Town, USA" to be featured in its September magazine. In the news release, Dog Fancy Editor Ernie Slone states, "Steamboat Springs is a mile-high mecca for dogs and their owners, embracing a love for canines in daily life and activities year-round." It's true. Go to any local business and you are likely to be greeted by a furry four-legged friend. Gizmo, a Jack Russel Terrier, accompanies his owner to work at the Old Town Hot Springs everyday. If you have ever been to Steamboat, or have read my blog Bringing Your Dog To The 'Boat - Dog-Friendly Steamboat Springs, you already know how much we love our canines here. We are happy that other dog devotees in the world will now know it too.With these three prestigious and legitimate titles bestowed upon us, what can we look forward to next - Hot Springs, USA? River Town, USA? Olympians-in-the-Making, USA?

With outstanding fall colors, ample winter sports, summer activities,  river sports, biking, hot springs, hiking trails and its rich ranching heritage, there is no doubt that Steamboat Springs, CO is an incredible place. Ask any dog or its human here and they will tell you that we live in paradise. We believe The 'Boat is worthy of these titles and more, so if other entities would like to continue to bestow such honors upon us, we will take them!
