After decades of fattening up central Nassau County residents, the well know Entenmann's Bakery Outlet, at the northeast cornert of Roslyn Road and Jericho Turnpike wil be closing. According to an article in our local Patch.com website, it will be relocated in Carle Place on Glen Cove Road.
I remember begging to go in when we'd drive by. My mother was not big on sweets in the house, but she would relent at the outlet as all of the great snacks were discounted based upon age. Rumor has it (from one of the gentelmen responsible for opening the outlet) that the company was doing well over $100,000 per week even 25+ years ago. In addition, he said the company would bring in alll fresh products because they literally didn't have any products that were old enough to send. Items literally sold . . . like hot cakes (sorry.)
For those who don't know, the founding family sold out to Bimbo Bakeries, which is now a Mexican congomerate of major bakeries. I believe they sell the majority of baked items in oru country. At the same time, the seller is being paid many, many millions of dolalrs for the Entenmann's name and reputation for top quality baked goods.
I haven't been there in many years, but I'll make a point to stop by the new shop, if I can get in the front door.
